Welcome to Corozal

Welcome to beautiful Corozal. Guess what the first thing is that you see when coming into Corozal from points south on the Phillip Goldson Highway (formerly the Northern Highway)? Is it the view of the beautiful bay with its ever-changing colors? Hardly. It's an increasingly ugly display of commercial billboards - right on the water side of the highway.
What An Atrocious View

The Corozal Town Council, in their wisdom, doesn't mandate that billboards occupy the land-side of the highway, where they would still be ugly, but far less intrusive to the view of everyone. Oh no. They have to be placed front and center. It really makes one proud to live in a town that used to have an almost unobstructed view of this gorgeous bay.

Billboards, along with a slowly creeping increase of construction on the water-side, is slowly ruining the premier waterfront parks and unobstructed views that have been the jewel of Corozal, and made it such a treat to see.

Now you can get a glimpse of the water, and an idea of how it used to be. One can only hope that Corozaleños, both native and new arrivals, will let the Corozal Town Council (http://www.corozaltowncouncil.bz/) know just how much they appreciate the beautiful waterfront views they now have. Just press the 'Contact' button to leave them a message. I'm sure they'll respond 'right now.'

That's really sad, Dave. I remember when the worst sign problem was the misspelling of the "Welcome to Corozal" sign! I know that they finally fixed that sign but boy you are right about screwing up the view.

Does it dark enough right there for some vigilante action??

Hi Julian,

Ha! You sound like someone who read Edward Abbey's 'The Monkey Wrench Gang.'

I don't think things like that would go over well here. It's a different kind of society here. Direct action isn't used too much, maybe because too many rice bowls would be broken, so it's best to protect what you have.

Cheers,
Dave

I really just meant to move them to the other side of the road, not dump them into the bay... lol. BTW I haven't read that book yet... did you like it?

At least it looks like Bertha is giving you guys a pass!

Hi Julian,

Good idea. I can't think of a billboard on the other side other than one for a windshield tinting place that is located on the other side of the road.

I read his book back in the early 70's. He espoused a pretty radical (for the day) environmental ethic, you might say. I enjoyed it. He wrote with humor.

Cheers,
Dave

I know it's been hot, but you've been "lazying around" for most of August. Luckily, no storms are on the horizon so you've been able to putter around and try to break your own personal record for "most daylight hours spent in pool".

You know - I can only shudder when thinking of what all that old, brown and thoroughly shriveled skin must be looking like these days... yikes! But then, if you don't get out during daylight hours no one sees you...well thought out, sir.

Have fun and check in every month or so so we know you two are ok!

Regards,

Julian

It seems I can never leave well enough alone, but trying to do everything all at once is taxing.

Cindy Lu being in a fight was bad enough... Losing Cindy Lu was much worse. Falling and screwing my back up even more than it was, in fact, almost breaking it, just reaches the sublime.

We have been logging some big hours in the pool. Now we're watching Invest 99L, at least we're getting some rain now.

There'll be another post coming along that will be mo'betta in a day or two. I was actually working on it before all this mishap started.

Cheers,
Dave
