Just So You Know

You might think you have a humid day now and then, or you might not. Around 5:00 AM, it begins to get light enough on the veranda to see or temperature device (we got this from Mae and Craig when they moved back to the States.).

I thought at that time that we were having one of those 'humid' days. The temperature read 82℉, with the humidity at 83%. I grabbed my camera and took a photo of the screen. But I was wrong. I checked again at about 6:11 AM when I took the photo below. The temperature had stayed the same, but the humidity had jumped a point.

While we were having our morning cup of coffee on the veranda, Dianna and I had just talked about the lack of a breeze and that everything felt like glue. Well, not just 'glue,' but more properly 'Ga-loo!' As in, break out the machetes and cut the air, just to be able to breathe, much less to walk across the room.
The Normal State of Affairs
This is heading into the time of the year (hurricane season) when we have these sort of figures as our norm each day. In fact, the temperature today is supposed to go up to 96℉. The humidity, later in the morning, will usually drop significantly, all the way down to the mid-seventies or so, making the temperature much more tolerable.

This is one of the big reasons that we have this:

It's All My Fault

I admit it. Just like if you wash your car on Friday, it'll cause rain for the weekend, I tempted the fates. It hadn't been very warm (as in too freakin' cold to use the pool, lately), so I took it upon myself to tackle another DIY project.

This one, a pool-side towel rack, was just asking for trouble.
Towel Racks At The Start
The idea was, sort of sub-consciously, that if I took my time building it, things would get warmer and we'd be outside using the pool. It's been like a month or so since we've been in the pool. The water temperature has been hovering around the low to mid 70's.

Well, that didn't work out quite the way I planned. Since I finished the towel rack, the temperatures have gone even lower!
Completed, Painted & Working
In fact, since I put the rack out on the pool deck yesterday, the low temperature last night was 51.6 (f). Go ahead and laugh, but I'll bet where you live (if it's up north), when the temp gets down to 51, you stroll over to the wall and adjust the thermostat, your furnace kicks on, and you stay comfortable. Ha!

When you have shorts to wear, a sweatshirt or two and socks, 51 is chilly. I even wore gloves along with my fleece hoody this morning to walk the dogs. It's almost 2:30 PM and I still have a sweatshirt on.

Anyway, the towel rack did turn out cool looking. If and when it does warm up, it'll be a nice addition to the pool. The blue color matches the pool house to a T too.

Cheers,

Ninety Degrees in the Water

You know, if it's ninety degrees in the water and around ninety in the air, if there's no breeze, it's really hard to tell where the air ends and the water begins - that is, if you're standing still in the pool.

Other than that, it's a whole lotta fun! Yesterday, Matt and Jen joined us for the afternoon for "pool-time". Their dog, Anna, joined in as well. She really liked swimming in the pool.

I think it quite surprised our doggies. Cindy didn't seem to want anything to do with it. Secret, hung around, watching. I think she might be enticed into the pool in a few days or so. Cindy will take longer.

Anna Swimming
Yesterday was a farewell dip in the pool for Matt, Jen and Anna. This morning, they begin a six-day drive north to Winnepeg. Brrrr!

Elsie came over today to visit. She and Dianna went over to the grove and checked her's and our banana crops.

Our bunch is a little smaller, but you can tell from the grins, the happy farmers are enjoying the result nonetheless.
