Tonya is Tony and Nelly's dog. She's a working dog, as are most animals here in Belize. The ethic of pampering pets has a long way to go here. For most folks, putting food on the table is still prime with little left to give animals an easy life.

Having said that, Tonya's life is relatively secure. She goes to work at sundown each day, till sunup. Then, she is free to lounge around all day long and sleep as she can. She'll only bark during the day when someone she either doesn't know or doesn't like shows up.

She really likes left-overs. In fact, the Belizians call dogs "pot-lickers".
